The players for the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected a different head coach to lead them in the next two to three days.

After head coach Doug Pederson fired eight defensive coaches on Monday afternoon, including DC Mike Caldwell, the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for a new coordinator of defense.

Pederson’s deeds were more telling than his words. During his press conference at the end of the season, he did not answer questions directly regarding Caldwell, but he did state that the offensive and defensive problems the team had in 2023 were unacceptable.

“Can’t let things slip”: Key takeaways from Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson’s season-ending news conference

“We were unable to win games or score goals due to our offensive deficiencies. Their defensive battles and errors kept them… If we improve our execution and communication, we do better on defense if we maintain run integrity and discipline in our gaps and schemes. We’re a better team; we tackle better, and we missed tackles,” Pederson remarked.

We weren’t particularly strong at this supplementary aspect of football this year, in my opinion. In defense, we anticipate a stop after the offense turns the ball over. We anticipate the offense to go down and score; defense, you give up a touchdown. That also played a significant role. They seem equal to me on both sides.

However, Pederson chose not to make many offensive adjustments, only firing running backs coach Bernie Parmalee and letting assistant offensive line coach Todd Washington’s contract run out. He’s not coming back.

As per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Carolina Panthers refused to interview defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for the same job in Jacksonville as requested by the Jaguars. Evero is a member of the Carolina team, which does not have a head coach at the moment. Based on statistical analysis, Evero was among the top defensive coordinators in the league last season, helping the Panthers finish fourth in terms of total defensive rating.

After then, Jacksonville’s attention will remain on the football field’s defensive end. Here are a few possible applicants to consider.
