It is intriguing that the Lions have added another elite talent who potentially soar to new heights.
After going through another round of roster adjustments in less than a day, the Detroit Lions are still faced with difficult decisions.
The organization announced on Friday afternoon that offensive lineman Michael Schofield has been added to the practice squad and kicker Michael Badgley has been brought to the regular roster. In addition to the acquisition, the Lions also declared the release of defensive tackle Chris Smith from the practice squad and the waiver of fullback Jason Cabinda.
One day after the Lions activated Cabinda from the injured reserve list (IR), the decision was made to waive him. With him out of the picture, the Lions have one roster slot available before they play the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday in Arlington. This week’s announced absences from action are C.J. Gardner-Johnson and James Houston, who have both returned to practice following their separate injuries.
This makes it possible for veteran linebacker Bruce Irvin of the Lions to be promoted from the practice squad. Irvin has only played in one game since joining the Lions on November 13—a Week 13 victory against the New Orleans Saints—during which he recorded a sack.
This season, the Lions have had difficulty stopping some of the top quarterbacks in the league, particularly those who create plays outside of the pocket. This season, the Cowboys have gone 7-0 at AT&T Stadium thanks to the dominance of Dallas’ Dak Prescott when playing at home. It would not be shocking to see Irvin suit up this weekend, as Detroit struggles to put pressure on quarterbacks.
