Sorrowful: The Buffalo Sabres head coach has confirmed the death of his all-time favorite player
The NHL broadcasting icon Alexabder passed away on Thursday as a result of “multi-organ failures,” the Buffalo Sabres said. For more than 50 years, he called the team’s games.
On July 23, Jeanneret, 81, celebrated his birthday; he died a little over a month later. For a few years, he struggled with multiple organ failure. The cause of death was revealed in a statement issued by the Sabres.

“It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Rick Jeanneret, Hall of Fame broadcaster for the Buffalo Sabres,” the team stated in a statement. “After fighting against multiple organ failure for two years, Rick passed away on August 17, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He will always be cherished.”

After the 2021–22 NHL season, Marca Jeanneret announced her retirement. Since 1971, when the Sabres entered the league for the second time, he has called Sabres games.
He was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame, the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, and the Sabres Hall of Fame in 2011.
