This NFL season, making fun of Russell Wilson has turned into a minor pastime.

If you search for Wilson online, you’ll come across a diverse range of inventive memes that mock the struggling quarterback for the Broncos.

Wilson, 34, is a target of derision in part because of the absurd $245 million contract he signed with Denver, of which $165 million was guaranteed, after forcing the Seahawks to trade him in exchange for an extension of his contract.

The Broncos’ acquisition of Wilson, which was meant to put Denver in the running for the AFC West against the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, has been remarkably unsatisfactory.

With an average of just 14.3 points per game, the Broncos (3–8) are last in the NFL in terms of points scored. They will take on the Ravens on Sunday.

Wilson, who has thrown for 2,369 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games this season, has been weighing the Broncos down instead. Wilson has an 82.3 passer rating. The most concerning aspect of Wilson’s abrupt decline is how stiff he appears to be, considering that he was once one of the game’s most elusive quarterbacks.

Fans in Denver are wondering if the Broncos will be able to cut him after this season because of his lack of effectiveness. However, Denver is limited in its ability to keep him due to his contract. Wilson’s contract would be worth $107 million in dead salary cap money in 2023, $85 million in 2024, $49.6 million in 2025, and $31.2 million in 2026 if he were fired.
