Another awful piece of news: The head coach of the Baltimore Orioles disclosed yet another devastating piece of news.

When it was revealed that Kyle Bradish would begin the season on the injured list, the Baltimore Orioles were dealt some very bad news to start their offseason.

It’s a difficult way to start the season when so much anticipation has been raised with the addition of Corbin Burnes, which elevated their rotation’s top three to among the best in baseball.

The Orioles will have much harder difficulty accomplishing this now that it has been confirmed that John Means will also miss the early part of the season while he continues to heal from Tommy John surgery.

After having the surgery in May 2022, the left-hander only made two starts that year. Means made a late 2023 comeback, but he only made four starts.

He’s just a little bit behind schedule in terms of his regular throwing program advancement. He’s therefore around a month behind. April, if all goes according to plan. According to Roch Kubatko of MASN, manager Brandon Hyde stated, “I think that’s what we’re planning on.”

Means had a fantastic rookie campaign in 2019, making it into the All-Star game and placing second in the AL Rookie of the Year vote. He had an ERA of 3.60 across 31 games, 27 starts, and an ERA+ of 131.

After a spectacular no-hitter in 2021, he put up more strong seasons, but for the past two years, he has been recovering from elbow surgery that has kept him sidelined.

Hyde and the Orioles do not anticipate putting an innings cap on Means once he returns. He’ll be cleared to go make his pitch outside.
