Throughout his career, Flyers Head Coach has been known to voice his opinions without holding back. He tells the player and the media exactly what he thinks without sugarcoating it. Although many players respect it, this will occasionally irritate players.
John Tortorella recently spoke with his captain, Sean Couturier, in an interview.
About Sean Couturier and John Tortorella:
“I don’t believe he’s content in any way with his play. Given the way Coots is playing, I don’t think I need to rush to him. Because of his status, I won’t give anything away for free (like ice time).
Coots was recently dropped to the fourth line and has a -10 one-ice rating. In his last ten games, he has tallied one goal and three assists. He is having a lot of trouble with every aspect of his game. The way Coots has been used this year has drawn criticism from some. Even though he had not played in over a year and was recovering from two major back surgeries, he was still getting 20 minutes a night of ice time through January.
Since then, Tortorella has moved him down to the fourth line and reduced the captain’s ice time in favor of players who are putting up points. Since Coots is a crucial component of the Flyers team and their future success, everyone in Philly is rooting for him to break out of this rut!
