The Blue Jays received yet another heartbreaking piece of news as Don Mattingly confirmed…
It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays have avoided trouble on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. front by tip-toeing around.
The All-Star slugger Guerrero’s knee condition was updated to reporters by Blue Jays manager John Schneider on Thursday. Schneider claimed that Guerrero’s MRI showed that there was only inflammation in his knee and that there was no structural issue, according to Shi Davidi of SportsNet. Guerrero’s ailment will keep him day-to-day going ahead.
Guerrero acknowledged on Thursday that he was feeling “relief” following the release of the MRI results, but he also mentioned that he is still experiencing knee inflammation and pain, which becomes worse when he runs.
Guerrero, 24, was a late scratch for the Blue Jays’ game against the New York Yankees on Wednesday due to what they officially described as “right knee discomfort.” With 10 games remaining, Toronto is clinging to a precarious one-game lead in the AL wild-card race, so the timing of the injury could not have been worse.
Guerrero hasn’t exactly had an MVP-caliber season, but he’s still a formidable force at the plate overall, batting.264 in 147 games with 24 home runs and 90 RBI. The Blue Jays will be hopeful that Guerrero can get back into the lineup as soon as possible because he also finds inventive ways to contribute in other capacities.
