Former Seahawks WR-TE Hybrid Signed by Eagles as “Big Slot Receiver”
Griffin Hebert was added to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad on December 28, the team announced. He is the team’s new wide receiver.
When Seattle made its final roster cuts in late August, he was released by the team.
Devon Allen, a wide receiver, was also added to the Practice Squad Injured Reserve list by Philadelphia in a corresponding move. He will be out of the next four games minimum.
Griffin Hebert: A Brief Overview and Statistics
Hebert, who is 24 years old, was a tight end and wide receiver for Louisiana Tech. During his four years in college, he caught 99 passes for 1,532 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 15.5 yards per catch.
Before the 2023 NFL draft, NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein had the following to say about Hebert:
Undersized tight end who is essentially a big slot receiver due to his speed and fluidity in space. Hebert should become well-known as a priority-free agent after having a stellar pro day.
The more tape analysts watch, the more they might come to value his mismatch potential and run-after-catch ability. Although he needs to put in more work as a blocker, his athleticism, explosiveness, and speed could make him a team’s future project.
Hebert is a good route runner whose athleticism makes him a fascinating prospect. As a deep-play threat, he can stretch the field, and his player versatility is impressive.
He is listed as a wideout by Philly right now, but he could play fullback or halfback as well. He’s played wide receiver, tight end, and halfback in the past.
With a 4.53 40-yard dash, a 39.5″ vertical jump, a 6.95-second 3-cone, and a 4.26 short shuttle, he had an outstanding Pro Day.
Throughout the 2023 preseason, he played 11 snaps in the slot for Seattle, catching three passes on four targets for a total of 22 yards (3.7 yards after the catch). Even though he probably won’t play this season, he might use it as a tryout for the following one.
