The 61-year-old goalkeeping coach played for the team for 16 years, winning the FA Cup in 1987, and then spent 19 years working in the backroom.
Prior to taking over as goalkeeping coach in 2008, Ogrizovic held positions as academy manager, reserve team manager, and caretaker manager.
“I believe this is the appropriate time to announce my full-time football retirement at the end of the current season,” he stated. I want to thank the football team, (manager) Mark Robins, all of the employees, past and present teammates, and players, and especially our amazing fans and supporters who have made my stay here unforgettable. I have had the most amazing experience here.
Being a part of something that means so much to so many people has been an honor. Even though I know I will miss the daily participation, I can not wait to spend more time with my family. My favorite football team will always be Coventry City, and the city will always be our home.
Ogrizovic holds the record for most appearances made by a player in a Sky Blues uniform with 601 games played. He is one of just four players, along with Peter Shilton, John Lukic, and Sir Stanley Matthews, to have played in the top division in four successive decades.
Manager Robins added: “Steve has made a huge contribution to Coventry City Football Club and football as a whole. The word legend is banded about often, but with Oggy it really is justified.
Not just in Coventry but all over the world, he is an icon and a very magnificent man. His contribution to the Club has been enormous, ranging from the 1987 FA Cup victory to his part in the Premier League’s survival and his latter work with young players and goalkeepers.
