It’s Heartbreaking: As a loyal coach of Boston Celtics has announced his sudden retirement, sending a powerful statement and…

Due to what two sources with knowledge of the situation said to be an illegal relationship with an organization member, the Boston Celtics have suspended coach Ime Udoka for a whole year. Udoka was the one who guided the team to the NBA Finals last spring. The suspension will run the entire 2022–2023 season.
The team did not make that information publicly known, so the individuals spoke to The Associated Press under condition of anonymity. The Celtics claimed in a statement on Thursday night that Udoka had broken team policies and hinted at the possibility of a longer separation coming after a full day of arguing over the details of the penalty.

The franchise stated, “A decision regarding his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date.”

According to a source who talked with The AP, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla will assume temporary coaching duties. In advance of the season opener on October 18, the reigning Eastern Conference champions are set to have a media day on Monday and kick off training camp on Tuesday.

Udoka expressed his regret “to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down” in an ESPN statement.

He remarked, “I accept the team’s decision and I apologize for putting the team in this difficult situation.” “I will refrain from making any more comments out of respect for all parties involved.”
