Just in: John Harbaugh has learned of the horrific accident that claimed the life of one of his valuable players.
In response to the arrest of former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, John Harbaugh, the coach of the Ravens, reportedly told his team to “guard your heart, guard your family, guard your career, and guard the people that are out there with you.”
After information about Ruggs’ arrest and felony charge for DUI resulting in death surfaced on Tuesday night, the Raiders decided to release the 2020 first-round draft pick. With all of the attention surrounding Ruggs’ car accident, in which a 23-year-old woman died, Harbaugh saw a chance to have a mindful conversation about living with players and coaches.
He remarked, “It’s just a sad, sad thing for everybody.” primarily for the victim and their family. You discuss those kinds of topics with the guys. We had a video and spoke with them about it today. We’re all involved: players, coaches, and members of the media.
According to court documents, Ruggs, 22, is accused of felony charges including driving while intoxicated and causing death, as well as reckless driving. Ruggs was taken to jail after being discharged from the hospital in advance of his Wednesday initial court appearance.
If convicted of DUI causing death, which carries a potential sentence of two to twenty years in state prison, probation is not an option in Nevada. Reckless driving carries a potential prison term of one to six years, with the option of probation.
Two seconds prior to the collision, Ruggs was traveling at 156 mph, according to prosecutor Eric Bauman, and his blood alcohol content was more than twice the permitted level.
Ruggs was becoming a star this season after a lackluster rookie campaign, with 24 catches for a team-high 469 yards and two touchdowns. In 2020, he caught 26 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie.
