While some fans may share head coach John Tortorella of the Philadelphia Flyers’ strong opinions regarding the NHL’s All-Star weekend, others may choose to express their opinions in different ways.

When questioned about the past weekend, Torts did not hold back and revealed:

The selection of Flyers forward Kevin Hayes to the 2023 NHL All-Star team was made public on Thursday. It was the first time in his career that he had earned the honor.

In his remarks about his nomination, Hayes revealed what his late brother Jimmy—who passed away in the summer of 2021—would have wanted for him with tears in his eyes.

It’s an exciting situation for me because, without getting too sentimental, it’s probably all my brother has wanted me to do since he gave up hockey. To be honest, I never imagined it would occur. Yes, and that’s awesome.

I’m not saying that, despite their tense relationship in Philadelphia, the Torts disregarded the significance of the All-Star Game to Hayes. Tortorella controversially decided to bench the team’s top scorer, Hayes, earlier in the season, despite his health. But the head coach made it clear that he wouldn’t allow rumors to destroy his bond with his best player.

Yes, I won’t be updating you on Hayes’s performance. I’m not going to give you guys the Kevin Hayes update. It’s absurd that you guys are attempting to set me against him and him against me. Thus, I won’t be providing you with any Kevin Hayes updates.
