After the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Wednesday, manager John Schneider expressed his team’s improved mood and stated that more of that was needed after their inconsistent homestand.

The Blue Jays announced on Friday that they had reached an disgreement with John Schneider, who took over as interim manager from July until the end of Toronto’s season. The deal is for three years, with a club option for the 2026 campaign.

Since his 2002 draft selection, Schneider has been a member of the Blue Jays organization. He was a minor-league catcher for six years. After retiring in 2008, he worked his way up the minor league ranks as a manager before joining the team as a coach for their rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate.

He oversaw players like Jordan Romano, Danny Jansen, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. along the way. 2019 saw Schneider join the major league coaching staff, and following Charlie Montoyo’s firing on July 13, he was elevated from bench coach to interim manager.

After Montoyo was fired, Schneider guided the Blue Jays to a 46-28 record and their first postseason appearance since 2020 over the final 74 games of the regular season.

Although Schneider’s regular-season win percentage of.622, achieved in his first season as the team’s manager with at least 10 games managed, is the highest by any Toronto manager ever, the team lost to the Seattle Mariners in the American League Wild Card Series.

In a statement issued by the team, Schneider said, “I am honored, excited, and deeply humbled to continue leading this extraordinary group of players, coaches, and staff.”

“From the beginning, this organization has helped me feel at home. I am really grateful to everyone who helped me get here, and I do not take the position of manager of the Blue Jays lightly. I adore Toronto, as does my family, and I am eager to improve upon this talented group of players and bring a World Series back to all of our Canadian supporters.

After Schneider took over as interim manager in July, a multi-year deal with the Blue Jays always seemed like the most likely course of action. General manager Ross Atkins made a strong indication earlier this month that Schneider would make a comeback when he said, “It will be very difficult for us to find someone better than John Schneider.”

The Blue Jays qualified for the postseason by playing their best baseball toward the end of the season under Schneider’s direction. Schneider was a skilled communicator with his players off the field, and he appeared to be able to deftly walk the tightrope between manager and friend.

“He always knows how different players tick, and that’s a trait that’s kind of tough to come by,” Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen said.

Schneider has been a member of the Blue Jays for his entire adult life, having played for the major league team for the last four seasons. His personal ties to the organization are extensive.
