The Baltimore Ravens youngest player, who has 3,000passing yards and threw 30 touchdowns, is confirmed dead
At left guard, where Baltimore is looking to replace Ben Powers, who is currently in Denver, the greatest competition for a starting position at Ravens training camp will be found there.
A year ago, Powers was by no means a lock for the starting position. A new group of gifted actors will now compete for the part.
On December 19 of the previous year, Simpson was added by the Ravens to their practice squad. Although they didn’t really need him at the time, they may have realized that Powers could exercise his right to free agency. After the season, the Ravens signed Simpson to a reserve/future deal, bringing in a seasoned veteran.
In 2021, Simpson was a starting player in all 17 of the Raiders’ games. A 2020 Clemson product, he is a big-bodied (6-foot-4, 330 pounds) blocker that was selected in the fourth round. Even though Simpson is still a young player and is developing, his background gives him an advantage over his rivals. Simpson “has done a great job in there” during the first few offseason practices, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
Harbaugh remarked, “He’s another [player who’s] played a lot of football.” He’s working on his platform and balance a little bit, and he’s really moving his feet well. I believe he’s improving at that every day. He’s also a big, strong man and an excellent athlete. I’m thrilled to have him.”
Sala Aumavae-Laulu took part in the first team minicamp.
Sala Aumavae-Laulu, a rookie in the sixth round, is one of the more intriguing opponents. Harbaugh said he did a “great job” and is “in the mix right now” for the starting position after he received first-team reps during minicamp.
Another large-framed (6-foot-5, 325 pounds) and agile blocker is Aumavae-Laulu. He spent his college career primarily playing right tackle for Oregon, but he could be selected if he shows he can pick things up quickly and that he is a reliable and strong player at the point of attack.
Ben Cleveland and others are employed in various contexts.
Ben Cleveland, a 370-pound mauler who stands 6-foot-6, is the third main contender for the starting job. The Ravens selected Cleveland in the third round of the 2021 draft. Cleveland needs to maintain consistency and health despite having started five games in his first two seasons and showing flashes of brilliance. During minicamp, he saw reps at tackle, which suggests the Ravens are interested in seeing if he can broaden his range.
Another monster at 6-foot-8 and 380 pounds, offensive tackle Daniel Faalele, a second-year player for the Ravens, has also been given practice reps at guard. Perhaps his best quality is his ability to start at any offensive line position. Patrick Mekari is an experienced player.
Training camp is when things will get more focused in the hopes that one player will win the left guard position. Baltimore used OTAs and minicamp to get in-depth looks at all the options. Otherwise, the season might begin with a rotation.
