Major Setback: The Bears announced the dismissal of another important player due to his embarrassing extramarital affair and allegations of more rape.

The Chicago Bears have released a defensive tackle who was detained on suspicion of domestic abuse on the West Coast.

After being cut by the San Francisco 49ers due to a sexual assault allegation, Ray McDonald signed with the Bears. He was arrested on accusations of domestic abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Santa Clara, California police said that the 30-year-old University of Florida graduate “physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby.”

After an argument with his ex-fiancee early on Monday morning, McDonald was taken into custody. This was his second brawl in less than nine months.

After nine months in the court system due to accusations of rape in December and domestic violence in August, McDonald was finally arrested (right) and released. He addresses the media late last month, on the left.

The defensive tackle, who was still in a relationship at the time, was detained for domestic abuse in late August of last year, but no charges were brought.

His then-fiancee, who was pregnant, declined to assist the police despite obvious injuries.

At 3:48 a.m. on Sunday, police were called to his residence in response to an incident.

According to NBC Bay Area, McDonald apparently rents an apartment in Santa Clara for himself, his ex-fiancee, and his two-month-old child. He reportedly ordered her to vacate when he was returning home from a night out with friends.

Eventually, around seven in the morning, he was apprehended at the home of his former teammate Justin Smith of the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN.

McDonald and the Bears signed a $1.05 million, one-year contract, although there was no money guaranteed.

Sixty-three days after the Chicago squad extended an invitation for him to play more, he was arrested and then released.

He’s not in: The Bears had signed McDonald in a contentious manner earlier in the season, and they promptly cut him loose following his arrest.
The Bears had signed McDonald in a contentious manner earlier in the season, and they promptly cut him loose following his arrest.

General manager Ryan Pace of the Bears stated in a statement, “We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bears.”

“The decision was made to release him because he was unable to meet the standard.”

In December, McDonald was waived by the 49ers following a rape allegation in which no charges were brought. He sued the woman for defamation, claiming the dispute originated from a consensual interaction in his hot tub.

General manager Trent Baalke of the 49ers stated the athlete had “a pattern of poor decision-making” at the time of his release.

After the team chairman had a face-to-face meeting with McDonald and conferred with his parents, the Bears selected him.

The contentious player’s inclusion had first been met with resistance by the team’s chairman.

Offensive lineman Kyle Long, a teammate, added insult to injury when he tweeted “Good riddance” following his swift dismissal from the team.

Neither the 49ers nor the NFL punished McDonald for any of his alleged misdeeds.
