Sad news: The head coach of bears received sad news regarding his…

In front of a large portion of the nation, the Chicago Bears were humiliated in a 41-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, dropping Chicago to 0-3 on the season.

The Bears have not won in nearly a full calendar year (11 months and counting), having now dropped 13 straight games.

In short, Matt Eberflus’s tenure as the team’s 17th head coach, appointed in January 2022, has been a complete disaster. Under Eberflus, the Bears are 3-17, including having the worst record in the league the previous year.

Even though there have only been 20 games, things don’t seem to be improving. To be honest, Eberflus ought to be under fire right now. Might he be the first head coach to be fired in the middle of the season?

In light of this, let’s examine Eberflus’s winning percentage relative to other former Bears head coaches. Get ready—it’s going to be ugly.

With 20 games played, Eberflus has the lowest winning percentage in Bears history at 3-17. This includes a current 13-game losing streak that has lasted almost a full year—the longest in franchise history.

Abe Gibron had an abhorrent 11-30-1 record and was, up until Eberflus, the worst head coach in Chicago’s history. He only had three seasons as a coach.

John Fox’s teams never had a winning record at the end of three years. Upon leaving Chicago, Fox had the second-worst record in Bears history.

After leading the Bears for three seasons, Jim Dooley left with the third-worst record in the team’s history. Chicago did not qualify for the postseason while he was the coach.

.406 is the winning percentage.
Considering that Marc Trestman was only with the Bears for two seasons, you might assume that his record was the worst of the lot. However, Chicago was home to three other head coaches with worse records.

With the fifth-worst winning percentage in the franchise’s history, Dave Wannstedt left Chicago at the end of his coaching career. Throughout Wannstedt’s seven seasons as head coach, the Bears only made it to the postseason once.
