The Seahawks have suffered a great loss as one of their star players perished in a horrific car accident.
Nov. 18, 2018, in Baltimore, during the first half of an NFL football game, rushing back Alex Collins (34), of the Baltimore Ravens, dances after scoring a touchdown in front of Cincinnati Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick (right). After an outstanding collegiate career at Arkansas, Collins, a former NFL running back who spent five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens, passed away. He was 28 years old. Collins’ family provided a statement to the Seahawks on Monday night.
“Alex was loved by his friends, family, and supporters from all across the world. The statement continued, “His drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality can be attested to by all who truly know him.” “We respectfully ask that you keep our family in your prayers and thoughts during this trying time.”
Collins ran for more than 1,000 yards in each of his three seasons as a college player at Arkansas. On the school’s career running record, he is ranked second only to Darren McFadden. In 2015, while playing for Mississippi, he was a part of one of the most memorable plays in recent SEC history.
The Razorbacks faced fourth-and-25 with a seven-point deficit in overtime. Hunter Henry, who was going to be tackled close to the sideline and well short of the line to gain, received a perfect pass from Brandon Allen. In a frantic attempt, Henry threw the ball back towards the center of the field. Collins received the first down after the ball bounced to him and he ran off for the opposite sideline.
In the end, Arkansas prevailed 53-52.
“We are deeply saddened by Alex Collins’ untimely and tragic death. The Arkansas football account shared a social media post saying, “He was a legendary Razorback and an even better person.” It was evident that he cherished the Razorbacks and wanted to be a Hog. He will be sorely missed. During this trying time, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
Collins spent two seasons with the Ravens and three with the Seahawks. In 2017, he ran for 973 yards with Baltimore.
“Alex was a pleasure to be around and someone whose light shone brightly,” stated John Harbaugh, the coach of the Ravens, in an announcement. “He was an amazing teammate with a positive attitude that touched everyone he came into contact with. I will always remember that about him. He was not just a brilliant player but also a tireless runner who made significant contributions to our triumphs when he was in Baltimore.
Collins was a player for the USFL’s Memphis Showboats this season.
