Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports examines how Jordan Henderson’s anticipated departure from the team will impact Al Ettifaq.
Kaveh Solhekol, chief correspondent for Sky Sports News:
The Saudi Pro League, the Saudi Arabia Football Federation, and Al Ettifaq are relieved that the matter has been resolved quickly so that all parties can proceed.
“They acknowledge Henderson was a valuable member of the team and appreciate his decision to go, but they also acknowledge he didn’t settle.
“Al Ettifaq did not obstruct him once it was evident he intended to go. In order to conduct business within this opportunity, they actually expedited his departure.
“The club will not actually suffer any losses as a result of his contract being terminated under favorable financial terms.
“Everyone attempted to make it function. It didn’t occur. There are no bitter feelings, no one is angry, and nobody is at fault. It’s a fact of life and football.”

Dharmesh Sheth talks about Jordan Henderson’s chances of rejoining the Premier League in the January transfer window to make Gareth Southgate’s England team for the summer’s European Championship.
“It depends on your perspective. Many will be claiming that he shouldn’t have gone there in the first place and that he’s coming back with his tail between his legs. He was charged with hypocrisy.
“He was charged with going there just to get money. He was charged with disappointing the LGBTQ+ community. Since we don’t have all the facts, we need to exercise caution before passing judgment on others.
“In the end, Jordan Henderson believed that moving to Saudi Arabia would be the wisest course of action for him and his family last summer.
Six months later, he believes it would be better for him to return to Europe and leave Saudi Arabia. It’s obvious that this has been a very contentious decision. We’re all aware that it hasn’t succeeded.
But from his perspective, he will be relieved that his adventure in Saudi Arabia is finished and that he can now return to playing European football at a better level.
“One of the really important things for him is to keep his place in the England squad for the Euros this summer.”
