Due to his wife, The coach Indianapolis Colts has officially announced his retirement
Following the team’s third straight loss and yet another poor offensive showing, the Indianapolis Colts have dismissed coach Frank Reich. The Colts’ 13-year player Jeff Saturday, an ESPN commentator, has been named interim head coach.
The Colts made the announcement on Monday, the day after their embarrassing 26-3 loss to New England in which they went 0 for 14 on third down and managed only 121 yards of offense. Indianapolis (3-5-1) has the lowest scoring offense in the league.
After Sunday’s defeat, he declared, “Offensive performance, that’s why I was brought here.” It is my duty to do that. Therefore, the players are here. The players we have are more than capable. I need to perform better. I’ll start by taking offense. I have to do a better job of getting the players ready for the game, positioning the guys for success, and having solutions ready for when issues arise.
After working as offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who won the Super Bowl, Reich was hired in 2018. In two of his first four seasons, he guided the Colts to the postseason, and the previous season, he came dangerously close. Yet, Indianapolis dropped their final two games and missed the playoffs.
In the last three weeks, Indy has made three significant moves. Reich revealed two weeks ago that Matt Ryan, the 2016 MVP of the NFL, will be benched. Despite Reich being the playcaller, he sacked offensive coordinator Marcus Brady last week. In addition, running back Nyheim Hines was traded by general manager Chris Ballard last Tuesday, right before the trade deadline.
