This holiday season, a south suburban family is juggling sentiments of sadness and joy.

A father and mother were adjusting to the loss of their son as they brought a new baby girl into the world.

Tears were shed right away.

“Humor, joy, and sorrow in abundance,” Kim Morris remarked.

Chicago Bears longsnapper Patrick Scales and Advocate Healthcare personnel surprised Morris and her family.

Toys, diapers, gift cards, and even stockings for every family member were there.

Medical assistant Latanya Cross described her feelings as “thankful and emotional, and as soon as I saw her get off the elevator, tears started rolling down.”

Last month, Cross was present when Morris gave birth to her baby girl. However, Cross was present when Morris was informed of Jayden’s 12-year-old son’s illness.

“When I gave birth to his sister, that’s the last thing I really remember him telling me.” “He was very sick and almost gone, but he said, ‘I’m so happy for you, mom,'” Morris recalled.

Just a few days prior to his death, Jayden was given a rare sort of adrenal cancer diagnosis. In America, only one in every million people has this type of cancer.

“I gave birth to his sister, my daughter, and then in the same week he passed away, and I had to say goodbye to him,” Morris recalled.

Morris and her family must get through the holidays not even a month later, knowing they’re missing a crucial component.

On Christmas Day, Jayden would have turned thirteen, but it’s also Malika’s first Christmas as well.

“She’s not too bad of a baby. She is also a blessing. She truly keeps me occupied, but my other kids also keep me going,” Morris remarked.

Morris wants parents everywhere to hear this.

She advised doing your best to savor each moment, despite difficult circumstances, as you never know when they will end.
