Breaking news: Michael Beale, the former manager of QPR and Rangers, will have his first press conference as Sunderland’s head coach today.
Beale has been named the new head coach of Sunderland for a two-and-a-half-year period. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman says the team has been keeping an eye on him “for some time” and believes that with Tony Mowbray’s departure, this is the appropriate time for him to join Sunderland.
The team also announced that Michael Proctor and Alessandro Barcherini will continue in their existing positions, with Mike Dodds moving up to be Beale’s assistant. Though Beale’s announcement that he will replace Tony Mowbray has left many fans disappointed, Speakman believes the team is better off with Beale’s coaching and development background. Beale departed the Rangers earlier this season.
