The Bills have finally managed to convince this powerful free agent to pen a new deal, though the superman has expressed a strong desire to leave the Bills and sign a New Deal with…
This offseason, the Buffalo Bills will have to decide who their backup quarterback will be. According to one insider, they might target a division rival who is anticipated to be traded this offseason.
With his one-year contract coming to an end, Kyle Allen, the veteran who covered for Josh Allen last season, will enter free agency. It is unclear if the Bills will try to re-sign him. As Aaron Rodgers recovers from a torn Achilles, Zach Wilson of the New York Jets, a former starter who may be headed for the trade block, could be a new backup for the Bills, according to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.
Bills May Snatch Up Rival QB Wilson is reportedly set to be traded by the Jets this offseason, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. The 24-year-old was selected second overall in the 2021 draft.
Benjamin surmised that the Bills, who are searching for a long-term backup for Allen, might be among the top suitors. With the signing of Mitch Trubisky for one season in 2022, Case Keenum for one season in 2022, and Kyle Allen for another in 2023, the Bills have not had much stability at backup quarterback.
Benjamin stated, “Josh Allen is close with Aaron Rodgers, who has been one of Wilson’s biggest supporters.” Although the Jets probably wouldn’t enjoy trading their former number-three pick to a rival in the division, Buffalo has Allen as a quarterback whose style of play is more in line with Wilson’s. The Bills could also benefit long-term from adding some Kyle Allen-led upside to their backup room.
After three difficult seasons in New York, Wilson finished with a 57% completion percentage for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. His career rating as a quarterback is 73.2.
After Rodgers was hurt in the team’s season-opening victory over the Bills, Wilson replaced him. However, a difficult loss to the Bills later in the season cost Wilson his job.
Josh Allen, who stated in 2022 that he recognized parts of himself in the young quarterback, has previously expressed support for Wilson. Allen claimed that the way Wilson performed in a game against the New England Patriots that season made him think of his own rookie campaign.
Allen stated, “I was in that same position,” during a visit on “Kyle Brandt’s Basement.” “My second year, I threw three picks against the Patriots, and after that game, everything clicked for me.”
Zach Wilson Might Be a Reasonably Priced Addition
Wilson might be an inexpensive addition to the Bills, as Cimini notes that the Jets will likely only receive a late-round pick in exchange for the quarterback.
In order to determine Wilson’s worth, Cimini stated that “ESPN reached out to three personnel executives, one scout, and two assistant coaches from other teams.” According to general consensus, Wilson could return a sixth- or seventh-round pick (or possibly a trade of middle-round picks) to a team that, given his draft pedigree, is willing to take a chance on him as a backup.
An executive told Cimini that while some believed the price would be much lower, a team that had a high grade on Wilson before the 2021 NFL Draft might be willing to pay more.
To spend two weeks at a Best Western, that’s what one assistant coach, who shall remain nameless, told Cimini. “I don’t like it.”
