Don deal: The Indianapolis colts have just landed another tall giant player to place their all time player.
Isaiah McKenzie has joined the Indianapolis Colts, adding to their roster after the team was quiet for a few days on free agency.
A player may have filled the void left by Parris Campbell leaving to join the Giants in New York, taking over as the team’s new slot receiver.
Given his stature and style of play, McKenzie is a perfect fit for the role. Because he can run the ball as well, Shane Steichen can utilize him as a gadget weapon in his offense in addition to using him as a slot player.
Currently, Indianapolis’ wide receiving depth chart looks like this:
Michael Pittman Jr. is WR1.
Isaiah McKenzie at Slot WR
WR2: Alec Pierce
WR4: Ashton Dulin
Mike Strachan, Vyncint Smith, Malik Turner, Kristian Wilkerson, and Ethan Fernea are backups vying for a spot on the team.
Chris Ballard should still be able to find competition for the slot position, but McKenzie should probably aim to add a Day 2 or 3 receiver to the bunch in the NFL draft. I don’t see another experienced receiver coming to Indianapolis this offseason unless an excellent receiver becomes available.
In addition, McKenzie’s ability to help the special teams due to his experience returning kicks and punts adds value to the roster.
Dallis Flowers is now expected to start at kick and punt return, but in 2023 Indianapolis might not need to use him as much because their cornerback group is small.
