Prior to their match against Watford, one of Leicester City’s star players suffered a serious injury that could end his career during training. This will be a huge setback for the team.
Leicester City has overcome the more difficult phases of this demanding Championship schedule despite the loss of numerous first-team players to injury at different points during the season. However, Enzo Maresca is gradually assembling the Foxes team at maximum strength as they get ready for the last third of the season.
Negotiations in January weren’t especially easy; City lost Cesare Casadei while he was on loan, and several players left to play for their nations at the Asian Cup or the AFCON. Maresca’s first-team options were somewhat limited for a while due to the inability to conduct any incoming business, but it looks as though City has resolved those problems.
The Hornets play Southampton in their FA Cup fourth round replay on Tuesday night, so Leicester will have an extra day to prepare for their hosts this weekend as they aim for yet another crucial away victory in a week. After that, they travel to Watford. Here is a list of Seagrave’s injuries.
Jannik Vestergaard, who was given a fresh start under Maresca this season and is a pillar in the defense alongside Wout Faes, needed to be replaced at the half of Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Stoke City due to a reported muscular issue. How serious the issue is is still up in the air.
“Jannik, he felt something, muscle, so hopefully it’s not a big issue,” Maresca stated.
Potential return date: When Maresca talks with the media this coming weekend before heading to Watford, we’ll learn how Vestergaard’s week has gone.
Iheanacho Kelechi
Iheanacho will spend the remainder of this week and the competition in the host country of Ivory Coast, having assisted Nigeria in reaching the AFCON semi-finals. The Super Eagles will play this weekend regardless of whether they advance to the championship game because the losing semi-finalists will play in a third-place playoff.
Potential return date: Iheanacho could play against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, February 13. However, if that game is deemed too unlikely, he is more likely to be available for Saturday’s match against Middlesbrough.
Ndidi Wilfred
Due to a severe muscle injury, the Nigerian was first expected to miss up to three months of action in January and might not be able to play for City again until early April. But following a speedy recuperation from surgery, he’s hopeful about getting back into action later this month.
Ndidi’s statement: “The injury is fine; I’m improving.” We are two weeks out from surgery. I’ll hopefully be back in a few weeks. When asked how many weeks he had until he began training or playing, he replied, “A couple of weeks to play.”
Potential return date: If Ndidi’s positive outlook materializes, we could see him before the Middlesbrough match, though Maresca has since advised prudence.
