After a protracted battle to sign this incredible star, the Dallas Cowboys have finally sealed this historic contract.
Right tackle La’el Collins was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to their practice squad on Thursday, and the team is excited to have him back.
With Zack Martin and Tyron Smith, Collins was a member of one of the NFL’s top offensive lines for six seasons during his time with the Cowboys, starting 71 games. In 2019, he agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract extension with Dallas; however, he missed the entire 2020 season due to injury. In 2021, he was also suspended for five games due to repeated drug test violations.
Following his release ahead of the 2022 season, Collins signed a $21 million, three-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. After suffering an ACL tear late in the season, he was unable to play for the Bengals in the postseason. He started 15 games for the team last season.
After being cut go in September, the 30-year-old hasn’t played in a game this year. The Cowboys’ offensive line depth will be increased with Collins’ arrival, as Tyler Smith, the starting left guard, tore his plantar fascia this past weekend.
On Thursday, Dallas added linebacker Damien Wilson to its practice squad. The Cowboys started the 2015 fourth-round selection in 22 games until he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys, who lost Leighton Vander Esch to a neck injury in October, have relied on Markquese Bell, a converted safety, and Damone Clark to handle the linebacker chores.
