By Bill Evans | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Sophia Bordi, the State Softball Player of the Year, is probably done for the season after suffering an injury last week.

For a player who has already experienced a tough season, was on track to become one of the greatest players in state history. She still has the opportunity to do so, but she will lose out on some of the accolades and statistical achievements that would have come her way this year.

A powerful pitcher who won the state player of the year award as a sophomore in the playoffs the previous year, Bordi was limited to just 10 1/3 innings this season due to a delivery problem that caused swelling and soreness in her elbow.

Hastings stated that Bordi was expected to return to the circle this week, just in time for the postseason, where the junior has performed the best prior to the recent unconnected injury. She had focused on modifying her delivery. In 2022, Bordi guided the Garnets to their final Tournament of Champions victory and two consecutive Group 2 state championships.

Bordi has pitched 266 2/3 innings with 605 strikeouts and a 0.52 ERA during her career. She was chosen twice for the first team all-state squad and has a batting average of.384 with 23 home runs.

Even though Bordi was unable to pitch, she was still having her finest offensive season while hitting and playing outfield. She batted 20 for 37, registering a.541 average, including an amazing 17 walks She scored 16 runs and knocked in 24, but eleven of her hits—including four home runs—went for extra bases.

Early in September, Bordi made his commitment to Oklahoma, the three-time defending national champion.

Haddon Heights coach Michelle Hastings stated, “It was going to be such a big year for her after her commitment and the two years she had, she had lofty goals for herself.” “Her current stats are astounding. It is disgusting for any athlete to be unhealthy. I’m simply really sorry for her.
