He wants to resign because of his injury, which has angered the fans.
ANGELES — Brusdar Graterol was bursting with anticipation. Graterol was bouncing up and down before games now that he was back in the Dodgers bullpen and active after missing 113 due to a right shoulder ailment.
He believed that his stay in Arizona for rehabilitation was ended and that he was now prepared to assist the Dodgers in the closing games and postseason.
Unfortunately, in the top of the sixth inning of the Dodgers’ 6-2 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday night, Graterol’s return to the mound was cut short after only eight pitches as he was assisted off the field by trainer Thomas Albert and third baseman Kiké Hernández.
After leaving the field in tears, Graterol’s right hamstring strain was revealed by the Dodgers. Later on, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts disclosed that the strain is a Grade 3, the most serious kind. Considering how far along the Dodgers are in the season, that will probably be the conclusion of Graterol’s 2024 campaign.
Roberts described it as “heartbreaking.” “Brusdar has been incredibly helpful to us. He has been quite helpful to us. He pitched for us at many pivotal moments, including postseason contests, and he had a difficult journey back. He was in rehab for a considerable amount of time in Arizona before returning and blowing out the third hitter he faced.
Graterol got Bryce Harper to fly out to third base on his third pitch, capping off an excellent start to the game. Then, in a matchup with J.T. Realmuto, Graterol let up a single to Alec Bohm with one out when he sailed a 92 mph sinker that was high up in the zone.
Graterol leaned back toward the mound, clearly uncomfortable, as soon as he unleashed the pitch. He informed Hernández right away that the wound was serious. Not too long after, Graterol started crying because he required help to descend the dugout steps in order to reach the home clubhouse.
Clayton Kershaw, left-hander for the Dodgers, said, “There’s a lot of stuff that goes into coming back and getting on this field and unless you’ve done it, you really know.” Kershaw gave up one run in 4 2/3 innings. We all feel sorry for him, then. He enjoys being outside, being around us, and pitching. If this is the end of the season, it’s obviously very difficult, but he has a lot of youth, a great arm, and he should be able to recover well for next season. But tonight is undoubtedly difficult.
