Sad news: The key player for the Indianapolis Colts has retired just before the team is set to…

Longtime tight end Jack Doyle announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, adding another positional need to the Indianapolis Colts‘ roster.

According to the league’s transaction wire, the move became official when the team put him on the reserve/retired list. The Colts’ salary-cap space was spared over $5 million, but they now have more need to fill at tight end.

Doyle was regarded as a leader both on the field and in the locker room. He was a versatile tight end. Since joining the league in 2013, he has had some of the most secure hands at the position, so his blocking always had an impact.
