Positive news: Another professional athlete has joined the Chiefs…
The Chiefs roster is essentially complete, but they now have the chance to bolster the offense with a proven veteran at a position of need and probably for a cheap price.
In the same draft class as Patrick Mahomes, Leonard Fournette, a former No. 4 overall pick, wants to return to the NFL and plans to sign with a team before the season begins. Fournette might be a perfect fit for Kansas City, considering they currently lack a designated third running back.
The organization is already aware of his abilities because in the Super Bowl as a Buccaneer, he scored a touchdown and gained 135 yards from scrimmage against the Chiefs.
Would Fournette even see much of the field or have a significant impact? Probably not, but he can spell Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Isiah Pacheco, and he can go in quickly if something goes wrong.
Even though Fournette is only 29 years old and has won championships, it feels like his career is coming to an end. After changing his approach in Tampa Bay, he emerged as a genuine backfield receiving threat, hauling in 143 receptions in his final two seasons.
Fournette would have the opportunity to pursue a ring and provide Kansas City insurance in the backfield with a low-cost, one-year contract after having previously been associated with the Chiefs.
According to reports, the Chiefs are content with the running backs they currently have.
However, Brett Veach never passes up a chance to strengthen the team’s squad. It makes sense to marry Fournette as long as she’s content to step aside and allow Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire steal the show.
You don’t miss an opportunity to complete a triple crown. Veach will undertake his research even if Kansas City decides not to sign Fournette in the end.
