Sad news: At last, Victor Wembanyama, the great power forward for Spurs, has announced his retirement at an early age due to his…
The San Antonio Spurs wasted a chance to win a rare game against the Memphis Grizzlies, a team that has been without key players for the majority of the season, when Victor Wembanyama missed what could have been the game-winning fade-away 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The highly regarded prospect thought back on what might have been after the heartbreaking 99-97 loss, but his remorse went beyond the game-winning last-second shot.
Kelly Oubre Jr. does a comical comparison of his height with Wembanyama.
Wemby bemoaned to ClutchPoints, “I didn’t seal the deal,” in reference to his team’s early-game lead of almost 20 points.
Even after scoring more than thirty points in three straight games this month and being the top pick in the summer draft, Wembanyama still felt like he had squandered opportunities.
While admitting that his squad was unable to “seal the deal,” Wembanyama emphasized the 17-point lead his team had in the second quarter.
Wemby stated, “I clearly remember a moment in the first half when we were comfortably ahead,” before talking about the missed chance.
What else was said by Wemby?
Wemby played with more offensive boldness in the second half. But Memphis had not only closed the gap but also taken the lead by that point.
“Advance. Respond. When asked about that part of the game, he continued, “As much as possible, contribute to the team’s success.” “We needed a response one way or another because their defense wasn’t particularly formidable.”
In response to a question concerning his increased anger, Wembanyama said, “Yeah, I can’t recall the exact sequence, but it’s possible.” “I’ll need to review the game footage.”
With one second left and down by two points, the Spurs came up with a play where Devin Vassell positioned himself in the corner and Wemby rolled to the block. Jeremy Sochan was unable to locate any choice, though, so a timeout was called in order to avoid a five-second infraction.
“Yes, considering that we had the choice between a two-point and a three-point shot,” Victor Wembanyama responded to ClutchPoints about the play’s layout.
The Spurs ended the season with a 15-55 record when Wemby missed a long-range shot later on.
