Fayetteville, Arkansas – Arkansas has changed its football program’s leadership.
Hunter Yurachek, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, stated today that Chad Morris has been terminated as head football coach.
Morris was hired in December 2017 and was in his second season as head coach of the Arkansas Razorback football team.
During Morris’ career at Arkansas, the Razorbacks went 4-18, with a 2-8 record this season.
“As part of my continued evaluation, I have come to the conclusion that a change in leadership is necessary to move our football program forward and position it for success,” Yurachek told reporters.
“It is evident that we have not made the development required to compete and win, particularly in the Southeastern Conference.
Throughout our football history, as well as our other sports programs, we have shown that the University of Arkansas is capable of being nationally competitive. I am confident that as we move forward, we will choose a head coach that will assist guide our program to that standard.
I’d like to express my personal and professional appreciation for Coach Morris and thank him for investing in the lives of our student-athletes.
Yurachek declared that a nationwide search for the next head football coach would begin immediately.
Assistant coach and former Razorback quarterback Barry Lunney Jr. will be the interim head football coach for the remainder of the 2019 season.
