The Tottenham Hotspur has finally made an agreement to move on…
Tottenham Hotspur are apparently preparing a new contract offer for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, despite his few Premier League appearances this season. Manager Ange Postecoglou is eager to persuade the Argentine that he is part of his long-term plans.
Lo Celso’s current contract will expire in the summer of 2019. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Tottenham, with Barcelona and Real Betis expressing interest.
According to Spanish source AS, Lionel Messi recommended Lo Celso to Barcelona during the January transfer window, even calling him Argentina’s best midfielder.
This could gain Tottenham Messi’s approval, since the club is thought to be in the midst of offering Lo Celso a two-year deal, possibly with a higher wage, to urge him to stay.
Lo Celso has made 17 Premier League appearances this season, with only four starts. His overall playing time is 464 minutes, enough to five full matches. Real Betis, where Lo Celso spent two seasons before joining Tottenham in 2019, expressed interest in bringing him back last summer and again in January.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain star elected to remain in North London. Earlier this year, in an interview, he discussed how Postecoglou’s belief in him influenced his decision to stay at Tottenham.
