After benching Joe Flacco in Week 18, the Browns give him an additional $75,000 but he’s still…

The Cleveland Browns have already clinched a playoff spot and many are thanking Joe Flacco for it. The veteran quarterback has been surprisingly great since signing with the team. So much so, that the franchise is rewarding him an extra $75,000 despite sitting him on the bench against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Joe Flacco’s contract originally included a $75,000 incentive that Cleveland would give him for each game he played. But he will not be participating in Week 18. Because of Flacco’s heroic efforts this season, the Browns are making the extra effort to give him the money as a bonus, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

A $75,000 incentive is part of Flacco’s contract if the Browns win and he plays at least 50% of the offensive snaps. In order to be healthy for the playoffs, Flacco will rest in Sunday’s regular-season finale; however, the Browns turned that incentive into a $75,000 roster bonus simply for being a member of the 53-man roster. Therefore, Flacco receives the money whether the Browns win or lose and even though he won’t play.

Simply put, this is a fantastic method for a team to thank its players. Flacco has been performing admirably and has been crucial to the team’s achievements. Cleveland’s decision to reward their seasoned quarterback makes sense.
