To strengthen his team’s assault Shane Steichen has formally announced the addition of another terrifying football wizard.

NFL free agency has begun, and with analysis from our NFL Nation reporters and expert ratings, we’re keeping tabs on every significant signing, trade, and release of the 2023 offseason. The official start of the new league year was March 15 at 4 p.m. ET, which means that free agent signings are now possible. ESPN will air the first round of the 2023 NFL draft on April 27.

The Indianapolis Colts will part ways with quarterback Matt Ryan, marking the first of several crucial decisions the team must make during a crucial offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts signed the following free agents in 2023; this is a list of those players and how they will affect the 2023 season:

What it means: By signing McKenzie, the Colts will have a slot receiving option to take Parris Campbell’s place, who last week signed a contract with the New York Giants. Although McKenzie doesn’t have a lot of big-play potential, he can make difficult plays in situations involving little yardage and can be a threat to receive passes underneath in the middle of the field. The previous season, McKenzie recorded a career-high 42 catches for 423 yards.

What’s at risk: McKenzie fills a need at slot receiver, but he doesn’t offer the outside explosiveness the Colts desperately need. Although Indianapolis thinks it can get more of that kind of play from 2022 second-round pick Alec Pierce, having a second serious threat would help to boost Pierce’s one-on-one opportunities. Despite recording a career-high 99 catches the previous season, Michael Pittman Jr. is not a reliable deep threat.
