Doug Baldwin is happy that he retired: “I’m over playing football.”
Doug Baldwin, a former wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, has no intention of returning to the field, even though he hasn’t submitted his official retirement paperwork to the NFL.
“Not at all. “I’m over football,” Baldwin declared to Brady Henderson of ESPN.
Baldwin’s 2018 season was marred by injuries, and the Seahawks dismissed him in May due to a failed physical designation. Despite battling ailments to his elbow, groin, both knees, and shoulder, he was still able to participate in 13 games, accumulating 618 yards and five touchdowns.
Despite his high output, the 30-year-old revealed that he had started planning for his retirement before his second season in the league and had been thinking about what to do after football before the previous one.
Andrew Luck, Baldwin’s former Stanford roommate, stunned the sports world on Saturday by announcing his own retirement. Baldwin could understand the choice, considering the long-term health and injuries.
“… The perspective is, I have to do what’s best for my wife and for my future children, and that comes first,” Baldwin stated. And when you have to make the choice, “Well, what will happen to my health after giving birth if I keep doing this? Will I be able to enjoy and have the experience that I imagine when my kids are old enough to run around and play? Will I be capable of accomplishing that? As Andrew mentioned, you reach the figurative “fork in the road,” at which point you must choose.
“It was a little self-serving to decide to play football at first and to give it everything in order to achieve these objectives, earn money, and everything else. On this side, the situation is the same. It simply has a different appearance. The main focus is on preserving oneself.”
