He is back. The all-time player for the Detroit Lions has officially announced his return.
For the 11-4 Lions, who recently won their first division championship since 1993, Houston’s comeback comes at the right time. The squad has looked for greater pass rush throughout the season, even with their success. Houston, who is 25 years old, had a tremendous first season, racking up eight sacks in just 140 plays. His potential as a formidable force opposite Aidan Hutchinson is demonstrated by his 17 total pressures on 92 rushes.
Houston credits his innate athleticism and the inspiration he receives from NFL icons for his exceptional ability to move around offensive linemen. Houston discussed his method during an appearance on the Woodward Sports Network program “Ermanni and Edwards with Maz Show.”
I was always the longest guy on the field, but I was never the tallest. Because of my lengthy arms, I prefer to keep people at a distance. Von Miller is among those who excels at making the most of that downturn.
Lions Want to Seed Higher in the Playoffs
The extent of Houston’s involvement in the team’s remaining regular-season games against the Cowboys and Vikings is uncertain, but his comeback is well-timed for the postseason push. In terms of securing the NFC’s second seed, the Lions are in charge of their own fate and must prevail in order to do so. The Lions must win their next two games in order to guarantee the top seed. They also demand that the 49ers lose both of their remaining games against the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Commanders. With the Rams, former quarterback Matthew Stafford of the Lions might be a major factor in the Lions’ attempt to secure the top seed by upsetting the 49ers in Week 18.
Adds to the roster before the playoffs
Not all players are on the verge of a breakthrough like Houston. The return of defensive tackle Alim McNeill and seasoned safety Ceedy Duce (previously C.J. Gardner-Johnson) will undoubtedly strengthen the Lions’ defense. On December 20, Duce began a 21-day practice window. McNeill is expected to return for the Vikings’ season finale.
The Lions are still focused on their upcoming opponent, the 10-5 Cowboys, despite the euphoria. But the return of important players like James Houston gives a winning team more strength and depth. The Lions, who are currently leading the NFC North, have a deep postseason run in mind.
