For his good:The all time player in Memphis Tigers has officially announced his retirement.
Memphis, Tennessee — The University of Memphis men’s basketball team will hang No. 55 in the rafters on Saturday, February 4, in honor of the late Memphis Tiger, Lorenzen Wright. The retirement ceremony will begin during halftime of the contest versus Tulane. The game tips off at 1 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.
During his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Memphis, Wright received multiple All-American invitations. Wright is a top-50 all-time scorer for the program, with 1,026 points in Tiger blue.
During his two seasons in Memphis, he led the team in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots, and his career averages were 16.0 points and 10.3 rebounds. He concluded his career with 31 double-doubles, the seventh-most in school history, and led the Tigers to consecutive 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament bids, reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 1995.
According to the organization, Wright will join an elite group of former Tigers who have their jerseys hanging in the rafters: Win Wilfong (22), John Gunn (44), Larry Finch (21), Ronnie Robinson (33), Keith Lee (24), Elliot Perry (34), Anfernee Hardaway (25), Forest Arnold (13) and Larry Kenon (35). Wright had a vital part for several teams during his professional career, including the Memphis Grizzlies. Wright still retains the franchise record for most rebounds in a single game (26).
