The eight years that Bentley spent as a player for Chelsea are what most people remember about the former England international. In 1955, he led the London club to their inaugural championship.

In addition, Bentley was a player for Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle, and Fulham. He was the final player standing from England’s 1950 World Cup squad, having earned 12 caps between 1949 and 1955.

After managing Reading from 1963 to 1968, Bentley became the Swans’ manager in 1969.

Before departing the team in 1973, he led the team to promotion from Division Four in 1969–1970.

At the age of ninety-three, he passed away.
