NEW DELHI: Because of a hamstring injury, quarterback Jacoby Brissett is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, which puts the Washington Commanders in a precarious situation at quarterback.
Following practice on Thursday, Brissett complained of hamstring tightness, raising questions about his availability for the next game.
The quarterback position took an unexpected turn the day after the announcement when Brissett, who took Sam Howell’s starting job, started having hamstring problems.
After receiving care on Thursday and Friday, Brissett was added to the injury report. In the event that Brissett is unable to play on Sunday, Sam Howell will take over as quarterback.
In the final two games, which Washington lost on the road against the Los Angeles Rams and the New
York Jets, Brissett replaced Howell, extending the team’s losing run to six games. Ron Rivera, the head coach, has faith in Brissett’s abilities and has called him a “very, very viable player in this league.”
The Commanders’ fifth-round selection in 2022, Sam Howell, has started 16 straight games, including the 2023 season finale.
Howell has faced difficulties this season despite having 3,624 passing yards, which ranks 11th in the NFL.
