Wcg Media Poll: Matt Eberflus will be back, Justin Fields, Luke and Getsy, won’t be returning.

The arguments over what the Chicago Bears ought to do in the offseason have heated up.

Fans have called for the firing of Matt Eberflus and Luke Getsy at different times this season, and the arguments over Justin Fields have raged for weeks on end and have become more and more heated on social media.

As we near the last regular season game, we at Windy City Gridiron decided to survey the media to find out what they believe the Bears will do in the offseason, while the fan base continues to argue over the futures of these three men.

Thirty-seven media professionals answered this survey. Most of the media, including those you frequently hear on the radio, see on television, or read in their articles, are based in Chicago and frequently attend Halas Hall.

All of the members of the national media surveyed are well-known, and the majority of them have extensive connections within the league.

Three options were presented to everyone: either the player will return, the Bears will move on, or they feel that their future depends on how the Green Bay Packers play this Sunday.

These are the outcomes:

84% think Matt Eberflus will make a comeback.
3 percent think he won’t.
13% think this choice will be influenced by the Packers game.

27% think Luke Getsy will make a comeback.
54% of people think he won’t.
19% think this choice will be influenced by the Packers game.

32% think Justin Fields will make a comeback.
51% of people think he won’t.
16% think this choice will be influenced by the Packers game.

It should come as no surprise that Matt Eberflus’s job is safe in the eyes of the media. After 12 games, the Bears are 7-5 and have won 4 of the previous 5. Following a challenging September, Eberflus has brought the team back on track, and they are closing the year strongly.

The media’s portrayal of Justin Fields and Luke Getsy is incredibly inconsistent. About 20% of media members believe their future is dependent on the outcome of the Green Bay Packers game on Sunday, while just over 50% believe they will both likely be somewhere else in 2024.

We must rewind in order to do that.

Some of the respondents stated that they felt their future depended on the Packers game because of the game’s extreme outcome. In other words, it would be problematic for Fields and Getsy (or Eberflus) if the Bears were destroyed, and it would be extremely beneficial for Fields or Getsy if the Bears destroyed the Packers. Many, I believe, believed that the Bears’ 20–17 loss wouldn’t have too much of an effect on their future.

It was unexpected how similar Getsy and Fields’ results were. Prior to the race, it was anticipated that Eberflus would be the safest, Fields would be in the middle, and Getsy would finish far behind. However, Getsy finished very close to Fields, with just a 3 to 5% difference, or 1 or 2 persons in this sample size.

We don’t seem to know what the Chicago Bears have in store, but it should be an interesting offseason based on these media results.
