Good news: michigan wolverine former head coach wants to come back to the team.

Head coach Sherrone Moore said on Thursday that defensive line coach Greg Scruggs had resigned from the program after being arrested on an OWI charge.

“I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately,” Moore stated, according to 247Sports and Zach Shaw of CBS. This is a University issue, hence I am unable to speak further.”

After Jim Harbaugh was named head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in January, Michigan hired Scruggs last month to join a redesigned defensive coaching team.

Suspected of driving while inebriated, the 33-year-old was taken into custody in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Moore declared in a statement that Scruggs had been suspended indefinitely awaiting a review, hours after the arrest became known.

Moore told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, “Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.” “He accepted responsibility for his acts and offered no justifications. While we look over the specifics of the incident, Greg has been suspended indefinitely by the football team and athletic administration.”

According to Rittenberg, an OWI in Michigan carries consequences “of up to 93 days in jail, a $500 fine and six months’ suspended license.”

Scruggs coached Wisconsin’s defensive line during the 2023 season before joining Michigan. In 2022 he was the New York Jets’ assistant defensive line coach.

After playing defensive lineman at Louisville, the Cincinnati native was chosen by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2012 draft. He played five years in the NFL, appearing for the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots.

Scruggs played for both the Super Bowl 48 and 51 winning teams in Seattle and New England, respectively.
