Breaking news : I still wish to know why Sunderland all time player have to leave the squad…
Having not played for the past two years, a Premier League legend has at last made the decision to end his 20-year professional career.
Previously, the striker had a prosperous time with Sunderland after being acquired for a then-record club transfer fee of £12 million.
European clubs were alerted to a new star in the making when he was shortlisted for player of the tournament at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, along with Diego Forlan and Wesley Sneijder.
Following a transfer to Sunderland, he promptly made his Premier League debut by scoring in a 1-1 draw against Wigan.
The 37-year-old played for Sunderland for two years, from 2010 to 2012, then moved to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates. He never played for another English team.

For two years, Asamoah Gyan (center) was a standout player for Sunderland.
54.9k people are watching now as Alan Shearer claims Man United “will sack” Erik ten Hag.
His career ended in 2021 when he left Legon Cities of the Ghanaian Premier League and did not play for the next two years.
Having played for Sunderland in the north east, Asamoah Gyan’s attacking prowess and more famously outrageous dance celebrations made him a favourite among Black Cats fans.
Friends and officials joined Gyan at a news conference on Wednesday to announce his retirement.
‘I want to take this amazing opportunity, a stage that is difficult in any football player’s career,’ the 37-year-old said in a message posted on social media.
It’s time, even though football players hate to admit it, but as nature awakens, that faint whisper will keep resonating in their ears.
It is time. That voice has been loud in my ears and I have given in.
Now is the moment to formally retire from active football and pass off the jersey and boots in style.
‘But then again, I am minded by opinions offered by great businesspeople and sporting gurus, ‘you do not quit your passion’. My management and I will keep pushing and promoting fresh talents,’ he said.
Gyan went on to say he will now work in scouting and coaching, saying, “I will use my experience and knowledge in the field of coaching, football business and scouting.”

With his ridiculous goal celebrations, Gyan (center) became a Premier League icon.
“I want to thank my beloved country Ghana, my family, my colleagues from school, those from colts and Blackstar from 2002 to date, club mates, coaches and everybody who has played a role in my career as a football player. Thank you.”
Though Gyan plays for Sunderland, his most famous moment is his 2010 World Cup quarterfinal penalty miss.
The 6ft 1in striker received the ball when Luis Suarez, who was later sent off, handballed an effort across the line in the last minutes of extra time.
Gyan was supposed to take the game-winning spot kick, but he drove his effort into the bar. At Ghana’s cost, Uruguay would go to the semifinals.
