Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is “praying for Kansas City” after the team’s Super Bowl parade celebration on Wednesday ended tragically with several shootings and at least one fatality.

Chief Stacey Graves of the Kansas City Police Department reported that three suspects are in custody and that the incident may have injured up to 22 persons. Chiefs players, coaches, and staff are all here, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas said.

“We would have never imagined this tragedy in Kansas City,” Lucas said.

After winning MVP in Super Bowl 58 on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes tweeted with multiple prayer hand emojis. He is among the numerous NFL players who expressed their sympathy on social media after the shooting.

“Horrible and traumatizing” was how Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany Mahomes, who was at the Super Bowl parade, put it in a long message on her Instagram Story.

“There is never an answer in shooting people. This is hard; praying for Kansas City and America overall,” she stated. Feeling really let down and ashamed by this. It’s awful; Super Bowl victories will never be the same. Deaths and injuries at an event meant to be celebratory. Distressing and horrible. Many prayers are being said for the families concerned.”
