sorrowful news: Due to domestic abuse, the all-time favorite player of the Phoenix Suns has been fired.
Sadly, the Phoenix Suns‘ all-time favorite player has been let go because of domestic abuse.
Following his felony assault charge for hitting his fiancée, Kysre Gondrezick, Kevin Porter Jr. has sparked the latest domestic violence controversy in the NBA.
Gondrezick reportedly called the police after the attack occurred at a hotel in New York. Porter Jr. is alleged to have been charged with attacking the woman and trying to strangle her, breaking her bone.
Kevin Porter Jr., a Houston Rocket, was detained for allegedly attacking his girlfriend, Roberto Ortega.
Second-degree assault is the charge, a felony that carries a possible jail sentence and the end of his NBA career.
While investigations and legal processes are ongoing, the Rockets and league have thus far stated that they are aware of the allegations but will not be commenting more.
It’s a picture that the NBA is far too familiar with. Many players have experienced domestic abuse; among them are Jason Kidd, Miles Bridges, Darren Collison, Jeffrey Taylor, Matt Barnes, and Metta Sandiford-Artest.
In June 2022, Bridges was taken into custody in Los Angeles for allegedly abusing his children’s mother. As part of a plea deal, he was spared jail, but the NBA banned him from playing for 30 games and gave him a three-year probationary term.
2016 saw Collison’s arrest when he was playing for the Sacramento Kings. He reportedly beat his wife in their house, causing her obvious injuries. After entering into a guilty plea to domestic abuse, Collison was sentenced to 20 days in jail, three years of informal probation, 52-week offender treatment, and community service.
2010 saw Barnes’ arrest for domestic abuse following his Los Angeles Lakers deal. Though her name was never disclosed, Gloria Govan is believed to be the woman.
When he addressed Detroit Pistons fans, Saniford-Artest was already well-known for “Malice in the Palace,” but he also had a domestic abuse conviction on his record. The athlete was taken into custody in 2007 on accusations of assaulting his wife, which their child saw. The team briefly waived him.
