Good news: Bob Melvin has just announced, celebrating one of his best players…
Every player in the San Francisco Giants dugout is required to stand for the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the national anthem of the United States, according to a new rule put in place by manager Bob Melvin.
Melvin clarifies that the rule is intended to present a united front before to games and claims that it is not based on any political agenda or even an MLB ruling.
“Look, we got some good players here, we’re a new team,” Melvin said to Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Friday. “More important is signaling to the opposing side that we’re prepared to play. Guys, I want you to be prepared to go. That has a distinct personality.
“It’s just something I embrace; it has nothing to do with what happened in the past or anything else.”
Every NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, and NHL game involving an American team begins with the US national anthem, but the Giants have made a significant difference.
In response to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that year that claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers, former Giants manager Gabe Kapler took to the kneeling numerous times in protest following the death of George Floyd in 2020. In 2022, he also skipped the playing of the national anthem on the field.
“We stand for a nation where we choose representatives to represent us, to carefully consider and pass laws safeguarding the rights of every citizen, and to advance this nation toward the goal of becoming the’shining city on the hill,'” Kapler stated in a 2022 blog post.
Instead, we carelessly combine our period of mourning and sorrow with a careless celebration for a nation that refuses to address the issue of regulating the sale of weapons that are almost solely used to kill large numbers of people.
“We have our moment (many times over), and then we move on without holding the people we give the authority to make these changes accountable for genuine change. As the powerful people take a break and celebrate their own patriotism at every opportunity, we stand and bow our heads.
Melvin claims that while he was with the Oakland Athletics and the San Diego Padres, he put comparable policies into place.
According to the Athletic, Giants infielder Wilmer Flores stated, “It shows that we’re ready to play.”
“We wish to convey that message to the opposing squad.
You’re engaged even if you’re not playing. You’re there to observe the match. He undoubtedly intended for us to do this. I thought we were here to play? It seems nice to me. It does not guarantee a successful season for you. However, it’s a good place to start.
