A heartbreaking report, as the commanders just lost one of their top players.

Dwayne Haskins, the former quarterback for the Washington Commanders, passed away this morning following an automobile accident in South Florida. His age was twenty-four.

The Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin, expressed his shock and inability to find the right words to express his feelings about the untimely death of Dwayne Haskins in a statement issued by the team.

After moving to Pittsburgh, he joined the Steelers family right away and was one of our hardest workers—both on the field and in the community.

Although Dwayne was an amazing teammate, he was also a great friend to a great number of people. I’m genuinely devastated. During this trying time, our prayers and thoughts are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family.

Dan and Tanya Snyder, the owners of Commanders, also issued a statement.

WPLG 10 News reports that Haskins was struck by a dump truck driver traveling west on I-595 at I-95 at approximately seven in the morning on Saturday.

Haskins spent three seasons as the Ohio State Buckeyes’ starting quarterback prior to joining the NFL. In 2023, he was still the team’s starter.

Haskins passed for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns that season. In the 2019 NFL Draft, Washington selected Haskins with the 15th overall pick, and it was anticipated that he would start at quarterback for the team going forward.

Terry McLaurin was his main target at Ohio State and later became his NFL teammate after being selected by Washington in the third round of the same draft.

Sadly, Haskins’ career didn’t work out, and the team cut him shortly before the 2020 campaign came to a close.

Shortly after leaving Washington, Haskins signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he finished the previous season as Mason Rudolph’s backup behind Ben Roethlisberger.
