After much disappointment, Brian Dutcher finally disclosed the departure of a crucial player who had finally linked a new contract with another team, which has dealt a serious blow to SDSU men’s basketball.

The departure of a key player who had finally indicated that he was interested in signing a new contract with another team was ultimately revealed by Brian Dutcher, much to the dismay of SDSU men’s basketball fans.

After leading San Diego State to the national championship game the previous season, Brian Dutcher has agreed to a contract extension that will retain him as a reserve player for the Aztecs until the 2027–2028 campaign.

With a 173-55 record in his seventh season as head coach, Dutcher is in his 25th season overall at SDSU. He spent eighteen seasons as Steve Fisher’s assistant.

“Our success began 25 years ago when my friend Steve Fisher came to The Mesa, and along with my assistant coaches, we have built a program that competes on a national level every night,” Dutcher said in a statement released on Wednesday, thanking SDSU administrators. I became a coach in order to make a difference in the lives of young people, and it’s the best feeling someone could have to be able to work at a school and in a city they love.

Last year, the Aztecs advanced to their first Final Four, defeating FAU with a buzzer-beater but ultimately falling to UConn in the championship round.

Tuesday night’s 62-58 loss to UNLV caused the No. 21 Aztecs to fall to 22-8 and 11-6 in the Mountain West.
