Numerous sources outside of Chicago indicate that counseling will likely be introduced sometime next week. On Monday night,Pat Murphy declined to speak with the Milwaukee media, but his representative, Barry Meister, issued a statement on his behalf.

Arnold took over Milwaukee’s front office a year ago when Stearns unexpectedly decided to step down. Arnold had been Stearns’ right-hand man since the latter was appointed in 2014. Arnold declined to comment on the bargaining process.
After succeeding Ron Roenicke as manager of the Brewers in May 2015, Counsell, 53, led the team for nine seasons. In 2018, he brought Milwaukee to within one game of winning its first World Series since 1982 and guided the organization to five postseason berths in six seasons.
During his career, his team had a record of 707-625, and just three seasons ended in defeat: in 2015, 2016, and the 2020 season, which was truncated due to the pandemic.
Counsell signed a three-year extension in January 2020 after leading the Brewers to consecutive postseason appearances. However, he decided not to sign another one when the deal was coming to an end, which created months of uncertainty about his future.
Late in the season, Attanasio stated that Counsell sought to keep the attention on the field and intended to evaluate his future following what was hoped to be a deep playoff run. Counsell had repeatedly shrugged off questions regarding his future situation.
Instead, eventual NL Pennant winner Arizona swept the NL Central winners in the Wild Card stage, and on October 31st, Counsell became a free agent.
Hoyer and the Cubs did not request permission to speak with Counsell before his contract expired, whereas the Mets and Guardians did, indicating that the deal was completed swiftly.
During a Monday night conference call with local reporters, Attanasio declined to say if the team would accept the Cubs’ offer to keep Counsell in Milwaukee.
Attanasio remarked, “We didn’t come together at the end.” “We lost Craig, which is why we’re all here today. But I’ve given this some thought. You know, Craig has lost our community as well as us. It’s truly a unique location.”
Now that Counsell is out of the picture, the Brewers’ attention is on hiring a new manager. After accepting the position in Cleveland, one excellent candidate—former Brewers catcher Stephen Vogt—was no longer accessible. However, according to Attansio, Arnold has already begun investigating possible successors in case the need arises.
“We intend to search for a manager who can maintain our excellent clubhouse culture, assist us in maintaining our winning record, and hopefully help us overcome a setback in the postseason,” Attanasio declared.
