The San Francisco Giants have just announced another unexpected great signing…
Statistics Indicate New Star for San Francisco Giants Is Ready for Big Season
Several metrics indicate that the next potential star for the San Francisco Giants has had an intriguing start, but he also seems to be on track for a huge season.
This offseason, the San Francisco Giants added a new star leadoff hitter from overseas in an exciting trade.
Tucked down among a number of significant pitching additions, the Giants’ newest member may play a significant role in the team’s future.
The 25-year-old Jung Hoo Lee leaves the Korea Baseball Organization after seven seasons and joins San Francisco.

With wins of KBO Rookie of the Year in 2017 and Most Valuable Player in 2022, he was a household name in Korea. In six seasons, he also took home five gold glove honors. Nobody could have foreseen how good he would be at making solid contact when he signed with the Giants, but neither could they have guessed that he would suddenly become a terrible baseball player.
He has an 8.8 percent whiff rate and a 54.1 percent hard-hit rate as of the start of the year. These are excellent figures, but they only partially explain his beginnings.
At the moment, Lee’s on-base plus sugging % is just.639, significantly below his desired level.

Where is the disparity, then?
Based on his statistical analysis, Brent Maguire of MLB feels Lee is ready for big things. His current weight on base average (wOBA) of.249 is well below his predicted wOBA of.320. This would probably indicate that he is only experiencing a bad run of luck and that his numbers should start to climb to better reflect his real performance at the plate.
Another encouraging indicator is that his spring training numbers were significantly higher than his current levels.

The most impressive aspect of his offensive game is that he seldom ever strikes out or swings and misses. Although the ball hasn’t fallen as often as everyone would want to see, he has been quite reliable at the bat.
He appears to be poised to establish himself in Major League Baseball and a valuable asset in the long run.
