Due to setback, key member of new York Rangers want to step down.
Filip Chytil step down in training with the New York Rangers and might be available for the postseason, according to ESPN sources.
The Rangers will wait and see to see how the 24-year-old center feels since there is no set schedule for Chytil’s comeback. But Friday was a significant day as Chytil, who had received the all-clear medically, joined the team for practice at its training facilities.
Chytil was declared out of the season by the Rangers in January due to an upper body injury. Sources claim that Chytil has been coping with head traumas. The last blow came when Chytil needed assistance getting off the ice after falling during a morning skate at Madison Square Garden.
“The organization’s top priority throughout this process has been Filip’s health and we will continue to fully support him in his recovery with an aim to return for the 2024-25 season,” the Rangers stated in a January statement.
ESPN was informed by insiders that New York’s management and trainers have remained resolute in their desire to follow Chytil’s lead and do whatever makes him feel comfortable. Chytil made the choice to join the team on Friday after he revealed that his training had improved significantly.
Chytil referred to it as the “hardest three months of my life and has not been easy for my family, closest people, and of course the whole NY Rangers organization” in a social media post made earlier this year.
“But we gotta stay positive even in these tough moments and just think what is ahead of us,” Chytil said. “I appreciate all of your kind messages! I’ll return more powerful than before.”
Alexander Wenneberg of Seattle, who has been the team’s third line defender since signing in March, was acquired by the Rangers during the trade deadline, strengthening their center position.
The team’s first-round selection in 2017, Chytil, only appeared in ten games this season and finished with six points. The forward, who was born in the Czech Republic, had just finished a 22-goal season. Chytil is valued $4.437 million a year and is in the first year of a four-year contract.
When the salary cap is no longer an issue, Chytil would be qualified to join the Rangers in the postseason.
